Energy Audits PDF Print E-mail

The Urban Homesteaders team can analyze your home’s systems and recommend upgrades for energy efficiency. Our diagnostics could also include the EPA’s Energy Star Certification.

Energy Star is a certification system approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency that labels qualified homes as significantly more efficient than conventionally built homes (30% more efficient in most cases). It provides assurances for effective insulation, high-performance windows, air-tight construction and ductwork, more efficient heating and cooling equipment, and energy efficient appliances.

Energy Star is based on the Residential Energy Network’s (RESNET) Home Energy Rating System (HERS). An Energy Star certified home may qualify the owner for tax incerntives or rebates. HERS scores are also being used to qualify future homeowners for low interest energy efficient mortgages.

Certified Energy Star homes benefit their owners via greater comfort, better performance, a smarter investment, a lower cost of ownership (lower bills), and lower pollution emissions.

As Energy Star inspectors and certifiers, Urban Homesteaders, LLC offers building diagnostics, energy audits and modeling, performance reports, cost-benefit analysis and education for homeowners.

We provide three levels of inspection: basic consultations, energy audits, or advanced diagnostics. We perform tests on and/or inspections of HVAC (heating, cooling, ductwork), electrical loads (appliances, lighting), building envelope (framing, insulation), and water systems (heating, fixtures).
